The Mardie Salt and Potash project in the North West has been a hive of activity lately, with significant strides being made in various key projects.

One of the standout developments is the ongoing work on the 2.4km jetty and conveyor system, designed to facilitate the export of salt and potash.

More than a third of the overall Jetty project has already been completed, which includes the design, engineering, procurement and fabrication.

A 3.5m wide roadway for maintenance access is being constructed alongside the walkways and conveyor trusses that will feed the ship loader.

BCI Managing Director David Boshoff said the progress of the jetty underscores BCI's dedication to enhancing logistics and operational efficiency.

"The progress on our marine package is a testament to the commitment and expertise of our team,” Mr Boshoff said.

“We are well on our way to realising our vision of a state-of-the-art export infrastructure."

Environmental responsibility is a top priority for BCI and a dedicated wheel wash station has been successfully built and completed at the site.

This station plays a vital role in mitigating the spread of weed and seed contaminants by thoroughly cleaning all vehicles leaving the premises, reflecting BCI's proactive approach to environmental conservation in tandem with its industrial pursuits.

In addition to infrastructure for salt and potash transport, road construction projects are advancing steadily.

Notably, the North-South Road and Mardie Road have passed the three-quarters completion mark, while the Northwest Coastal Highway Intersection has already been fully finished.

“These critical roadways will provide safe access to the site throughout operations and during heavy haulage campaigns for construction,” Mr Boshoff said.

“Furthermore, they will serve as levee protection barriers for the evaporation ponds, guarding against upstream flood events.”

To safeguard the adjacent gas pipelines, work has commenced on reinforcing the walls of Ponds 1, 2 and 3, while the eagerly anticipated Pond 5 is expected to reach completion by the end of September.

Minor tasks are still in progress, including the installation of a pavement layer on the trafficable embankments, enabling access to the pond 5-6 transfer pump station and the internal pond 4-5 weir.

Mr Boshoff said these milestones bring BCI closer to realising its vision and delivering on its commitments.

"Our team's dedication to excellence is evident in the progress we've achieved across various facets of our Mardie Salt and Potash project,” he said.
