BCI recently attended the CME Inspiring Girls Forum, helping to showcase our business and the industry to female secondary students.

Hannah Elms – Health and Safety Advisor and Gemma Cawthray – HR & Training Systems Administrator joined the girls of Duncraig Senior Highschool for morning tea, sharing their experiences, passing down career advice and giving them tips on how to pursue a career in mining.

A range of local and global businesses within the resources sector participate in the forum, creating excitement, and showcasing the industry, helping to encourage and inspire females to take a leap of faith, backing themselves in pursuing these careers.

Jamayne Burke – Principal Organisational Development spoke about the significance of empowering young women to take charge of their careers, regardless of their chosen career path.

“We want women, especially those who are about to graduate or pick their career path, to back themselves in all that they do,” Jamayne said.

“Their role in the resources industry has never been more important and sharing with these girls how to carve that path is especially rewarding.”

At BCI we are proud of the diverse workforce, especially our industry-leading female participation rate of 42%. While a significant number for us, there is still much to be done in this space and are looking forward to ways we can diversify our business and bring on new ideas.

Whether in engineering, in operations or in the corporate landscape, increasing the presence of women within the workplace can diversify and create a space where all employees feel safe, included and respected.
